Skateboarder Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver; Police Seek Leads

"The vehicle was identified as a white, gray or black truck," said sheriff's Sgt. Danny Lingo. "The driver failed to stop and render aid after the collision occurred and has not been identified."

A search was under way today for the pickup truck driver who ran over and killed an 18-year-old skateboarder in Perris then fled the scene.

Eric Hernandez of Perris suffered fatal injuries when he was struck around 8:40 p.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of Redlands Avenue, just south of Placentia Avenue, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office.

Authorities said Hernandez was riding his skateboard north on Redlands when a pickup plowed into him from behind.

"The vehicle was identified as a white, gray or black truck," said sheriff's Sgt. Danny Lingo. "The driver failed to stop and render aid after the collision occurred and has not been identified."

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene less than 20 minutes later.

According to Lingo, the pickup will likely have damage to the passenger- side grill and front fender. He asked anyone with information to call the sheriff's Perris station at (951) 210-1000. --City News Service
