Target Practice Sparks Fire in Lake Elsinore

Shooting during target practice Sunday sparked a non-injury wildland fire on the outskirts of Lake Elsinore, officials said.

The fire on El Toro Road, near Ellie Road, was reported at 2:42 p.m., according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

It took 31 firefighters more than 2.5 hours to control the blaze, though it was contained much earlier; no buildings were threatened, the department's Melody Hendrickson said.

The total acreage was 5.7 acres, she said.

No one was injured in the fire, nor was anyone displaced, she said.

The Bureau of Land Management and March Air Reserve Base lent assistance to local firefighters.
