An interim CEO of Southwest Healthcare System – the parent of Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar -- has been selected, it was announced today.

John Harris has been named Group Vice President of Universal Health Services Southern California market. King of Prussia, PA-based Universal Health Services is the umbrella hospital management company over Southwest Healthcare System, which includes Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar and Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.

Harris will assume responsibility for oversight of Southwest Healthcare System and its two local hospitals, as well as Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona, Palmdale Regional Medical Center in Palmdale, and Temecula Valley Hospital in Temecula (scheduled to open in summer of 2013).

“His first and immediate responsibility is to serve as interim CEO of Southwest Healthcare System until the current CEO search identifies his successor in that position,” according to Brian Connors, director of marketing for Southwest Healthcare System.

Prior to joining UHS, Harris was Market CEO for Sierra Providence Health Network of El Paso, Texas, within the Tenet Healthcare Corporation. In six years, Harris expanded the network from six to 25 facilities, including four hospitals and 21 freestanding facilities, according to Connors. Previous to that, he was CEO at Tenet’s Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett, Texas.

Harris holds bachelor’s degrees in Business and Political Science from Oregon State University and a master’s degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Marvin G. Pember, President of UHS’s Acute Care Division, said, “Throughout his career, John Harris has evidenced exceptional leadership skills in his positions as CEO of a number of acute medical/surgical hospitals. We are excited to welcome him to UHS and look forward to his strong leadership in our fast-growing Southern California market.”
