Local Service Group Collects Shoes for Sandy Sufferers

A local service group inspired by Hurricane Sandy is extending a charity shoe drive that aims to support those in need due to disaster or abject poverty.

The Rainbow Girls of Infinity Assembly that meets in Lake Forest is collecting new shoes at Foothill Post and Ship through Nov. 14.

The shoes will go to Shoes4Souls, which distributes them globally to those in need. The organization is also playing a role in the areas hit by Hurricane Sandy, according to Rainbow Girls.

Donors may bring any type of new shoes, of any size, to Foothill Post and Ship at 26741 Portola Parkway, Suite 1-E, Foothill Ranch.

The service group's intial shoe drive began in late August and wrapped up in the beginning of October.

During that drive, with the help of local members of Rainbow Girls, Masons, and the Order of the Eastern Star, the girls collected 350 pairs of new and used shoes for Soles4Souls.

The girls decided to reopen it on Oct. 31 after hearing about the devestation caused by the hurricane.

They passed out flyers on Halloween, encouraging members of the community to contribute. Girls in the service group live in Lake Forest, Foothill Ranch, Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo and Huntington Beach.

Monetary donations may also be made online at the  Hurricane Sandy Donation to Soles4Souls in honor of "Infinity Pledge" 23685 Birtcher Dr., Lake Forest, CA.

According to the Soles4Souls website, the organization has distributed shoes to people in more than 125 countries.
