First Whiting Ranch Bike Poker Ride Draws Hundreds

Sunglasses company Oakley teams up with Orange County Parks to put on a weekend bicycle ride—with a twist.

More than 400 cyclists turned out Saturday for a challenging ride through Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, followed by a hand of poker.

The Whiting Ranch Mountain Bike Poker Ride—the first of its kind put on in the wilderness area—was co-hosted by OC Parks and Foothill Ranch-based sunglasses company Oakley.

As each cyclist completed the course, they were dealt a hand of poker.

Grand prize went to the cyclist with the best poker hand, held by rider Chris Wagner. Wagner took home a mountain bike frame from Felt and a pair of Oakley sunglasses.

A number of other prize winners took home Oakley sunglasses and $20 gift certificates to Path Bike Shop.

After the race and card game, cyclists refilled their tanks with food from Dogzilla Hot Dogs, A Bite Truck and Kona Ice.

Representatives from the Orange County Zoo, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, the  Orange County Fire AuthorityTrail AngelsShare Mountain Bike Club and various cycle vendors including  Path Bike Shop showed up in support of the event.
