Visionary leader Jan Philips thinks it’s more important than ever to create change in society. Fewer people are watching the news, she says, because of the current state of the world.

“Our world is too difficult to watch on the news anymore because every institution we’ve known and loved for the past 200 years is falling apart,” said Phillips, an award-winning author who most recently wrote No Ordinary Time: The Rise of Spiritual Intelligence and Evolutionary Creativity.

The Clairemont resident is set to speak this weekend at La Mesa’s Om Center for Spiritual Living, where she’ll present ideas on how to raise spiritual consciousness and compassion through a multisensory presentation inspired by her many travels.

She sees herself as a “prophet from the future,” helping pave the way for a “reline of priorities” and “midcourse correction before it’s too late.”

“This talk/workshop is dedicated to be a multivitamin for the creation,” said Phillips, a philanthropist who’s taught in 23 countries. “If you die next week, would you have created the things you wanted to create?”

Phillips will host a talk at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, and a workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.* For more information, contact Phillips at 858-571-1417 or jan@janphillips.com, or Rev. Suzette Wehunt at 858-213-7061 or revsuzette@yahoo.com.

*Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the event would take place on Sept. 16.
