Assisteens from Contra Costa County are hosting a fashion show and tea, and taking new members.

Assisteens of Diablo Valley, an auxiliary of the local Assistance League, are hosting a fundraiser fashion show on Sunday, May 4 in Walnut Creek to further their charitable efforts in Contra Costa County.

The Fourth Annual Assisteens Fashion Show and Tea will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 2711 Buena Vista Avenue, in Walnut Creek. 

Tickets are $17.50 for adults and $8 for children, 12 and younger. 

The afternoon will include a tea with savories and desserts, and raffle tickets for gift baskets and silent auction items, and the teens modeling fashions from the  Way Side Inn Thrift Shop in Lafayette.  

Assisteens's comunicty efforts include hosting holiday parties for children, work at the Thrift Shop, correspond with homebound seniors and entertain at a senior care facility. 

Assisteens of Diablo Valley was founded in 1977 and has more than 45 members in grades 7 through 12, from Alamo, Clayton, Concord, Danville, Lafayette, Orinda, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon and Walnut Creek.

To become involved with Assisteens:
  • The membership campaign begins in March/April, with dues payable by May 1, 2014.
  • Membership year is June 1, 2014 - May 31, 2015.
  • Dues are currently $35 per year, plus $10 T-shirt fee.
  • Prospective members and their parents are invited to an informational meeting and/or an open house.
  • Deadline for joining is September 30, 2014, or upon a maximum membership of 60.
  • Members are required to dedicate 35 hours of community service annually.
  • Meetings are held the second Tuesday evening of each month, except July and August.
  • * Through fundraising efforts, Assisteens support community programs that benefit seniors and children.
  • Teenagers interested in joining are assigned a mentor while learning about the organization.
