Firefighters battled a two-acre brush fire near Valley View Drive in Orinda Monday, and called for air support from CalFire when the smoky blaze proved too tough to get at from the ground.

Hand crews from the Contra Costa County and Moraga-Orinda fire protection districts turned out to fight the fire while helicopters carrying water and fire retardant buzzed in with air drops.

The Fire was reported at 3:36 p.m. and was declared under control within about an hour and out within two. An exact cause was still being determined though the proximity of nearby power lines was not missed.

Mop-op operations continued through early evening to make sure no hot spots flared up later. Late word from MOFD reported that one of their firefighters suffered a minor injury fighting the blaze. The nature of that injury was not given.
