Lafayette Police Investigate Attempted Home Burglary

The Lafayette Police Department is investigating an attempted home break-in and seeking a male suspect who was driving a white Ford pick-up truck spotted at the scene.

Officers responded to a burglar alarm at approximately 9 a.m. on the 3200 block of Woodview Drive where a neighbor reported seeing a man run from the rear of the residence and flee in a white Ford pick-up truck, police said.

The neighbor said he followed the suspect, but had lost sight of the truck near the entrance to St. Mary’s College, police said.

Officers found the side gate to the home’s rear yard ajar and a screen removed from a bedroom window. However, the window was locked, and investigators determined that while attempting to open the window, the suspect activated the alarm, police said.

The suspect is described as Hispanic, in his mid-20s, with a stocky build and wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans. The California plates on his 2001 Ford truck are 8R74831, police said.

Officers from Lafayette and Moraga PD searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect or his vehicle, police said.

The homeowners told the department that when they were leaving the house, they saw the same suspect standing between their home and the neighbor’s, and saw the white truck parked out front, but because of his clothing, assumed the individual was a construction worker who belonged there, police said.

Investigators have determined that the truck arrived in the neighborhood at 8:34 a.m. from northbound St. Mary’s Road from Moraga, and left traveling southbound on St. Mary’s Road toward Moraga, police said.
