Teen, 17, Suffered Major Injuries Following Sunday Car Crash In Lafayette

The 18-year-old driver was also hurt. Both were transferred to John Muir.

A 17-year-old boy suffered major injuries when the vehicle he was in crashed in Lafayette Sunday night.

Around 8:50 p.m., officers received reports of a crash on Bear Creek Road, south of Happy Valley Road, according to California Highway Patrol officials. Upon arriving, officers learned an 18-year-old driver had been driving south on Bear Creek Road at a high rate of speed, when she failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, CHP officials said.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to strike a tree at the east edge of the roadway, according to the CHP. The driver sustained minor injuries, while her 17-year-old passenger sustained major injuries, CHP officials said.

Emergency crews transported the two to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for their injuries, CHP officials said.
