Week in Review: Fire and Rain

Did you miss some of the stories from Lamorinda Patch earlier in the week?

Week in Review: Fire and Rain

Rain took over the news at the end of the week, but seven days ago the weather was dry and there was a house fire in Orinda. That got the week going with an assist from a reader, Eric Smith, who took a stunning photo of the fire, visible from several ridges away. Fog in the low places, a column of dark smoke rising into the sky. Thanks, Eric. More about the El Gavilan Road house fire later. That photo is with this story.

On Monday, the Lafayette City Council voted 3-1 to go forward with a condo project in the middle of town, in the undeveloped parking lot between the BART station and Panda Express.

On Tuesday, the story that goes on and on had a new development —  a fourth claim or lawsuit excoriating the Moraga School District for not doing more to prevent sexual abuse of students by two teachers in the 1990s.

On Wednesday, we ran a Moraga police blotter that took note of two recent car-vs.-pedestrian accidents. In your car, go slow. When you're walking, look both ways. All ways.

On Thursday, Lamorinda Patch took a closer look at traffic safety on Glorietta Boulevard, sharing some thoughts of neighbors about speed limits in the context of an odd, one-car accident on Monday.

On Friday, we came back to the story of the Orinda house fire with a feature about the Otsmaa family, buoyed by the support of friends and the community, determined to rebuild on El Gavilan Road.
