Daily Planner: Find Adventure Around The Bay Area

Here are some of the highlights happening around the Larkspur and Corte Madera Twin Cities area August 8-9:

You don't have to just read about someone else's travels and adventures — you can create those memories yourself and preserve them.

Learn from National Geographic Traveler writer and editor at large Don George how to write your own travel stories, whether for publication or just for your own diary.

George will lead a class for a day of exploration and travel writing around San Francisco, a city that has been an essential character in so many classic novels and movies. This group will meet at Book Passage in Corte Madera at 9 a.m. Wednesday and take the ferry across the Bay. He'll talk about the art of finding, researching and writing travel stories, then participants will continue to hip, stylish and historic North Beach, where they will take a short guided group walk. After that, each participant will write a short piece based on the day’s discoveries.

The group will then return to Book Passage, where they’ll meet workshop-style to enjoy and evaluate each other’s literary creations. Lunch and roundtrip ferry ticket included. Enrollment is limited. The fee is $165.

• Outdoor movies: continues its weekly outdoor movie series on Wednesday with The Fantastic Mr. Fox. The film starts at 6 p.m. The series continues the following two Wednesdays with Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (Aug. 15), and Tangled (Aug. 22).

• Library Story Time: The Corte Madera Library has a very full schedule this week. Crosspulse Rhythm Duo arrives with its freestyling musical beat at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Kids Book Club meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a discussion of No Talking, by Andrew Clements.  In this comic tale, the noisy fifth grade boys of Laketon Elementary School challenge the equally loud fifth grade girls to a "no talking" contest.  Please call or visit the Library to sign up in advance.

• Farmers Market: Get your shopping list together — and make sure to include some fresh fruit — before heading over to the Corte Madera Farmers Market at the Town Center. Fresh produce, including figs, oranges, berries and more, is available every Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. Check out the Recipe of the Week every Saturday for tips from the farmers market.

• Wednesday Night Drags: Take your car or motorcycle up to the dragstrip at Race Sonoma for the Wednesday Night Drags. The competition is open to street-legal vehicles. There's also a chance to race against a squad car during the Top the Cops challenge, which pits high school students head-to-head against police from around the Bay Area. The races will be aired live on www.1320go.com starting at 4 p.m.
