Firefighters and residents act quickly to put out a deck fire at 190 Corte Ramon.

Early-Morning Blaze Endangers Larkspur Home

Residents at 190 Corte Ramon in Larkspur acted quickly after spotting a structure fire on a wooden deck below the house at 4:43 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents in the main house apparently heard the fire, observed it threatening their residence and immediately called 911 while evacuating occupants from the guest and main house.

"They did everything right," according to San Rafael Fire Chief Charles Gray.

San Rafael Battalion Chief Jeff Buscher said that Larkspur firefighters arrived quickly and found a fire below the main house involving a large wooden deck that was burning on a hillside and threatening an adjacent guest house.

San Rafael, Kentfield, Corte Madera and Ross Valley arrived on the first alarm and assisted with this incident.

Firefighters were challenged by the location and access to the fire due to its location. Prompt notification of 9-1-1 and the initial actions by first arriving firefighters kept damage to a minimum. Fire damage was limited to the deck.  No damage occurred to either the main house or guest cottage. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
