Get Ready For Earth Day With A Nature Walk

Around Town April 6-8: We know you probably have a lot of holiday activities planned, but just in case you don't here are a few other tips for weekend fun.

Get Ready For Earth Day With A Nature Walk

Get in touch with nature on King Mountain this weekend. Start with an evening hike Friday, 5:30-8 p.m. A ranger will lead this nature walk to discover the diverse vegetation that blankets this Larkspur preserve, from redwood forest to oak woodland and chaparral. Bring water and a flashlight; wear layered clothing and sturdy shoes.

If that's not enough, join the restoration project at Little King Meadow on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is suitable for anyone age 6 and older. Directions: Meet at Cedar Ave in Larkspur: from Hwy 101, take the Paradise Dr/Tamalpais Dr exit west on Tamalpais Dr, turn right at Corte Madera Dr (becomes Magnolia Ave), turn left at Ward Street, turn right at Hawthorne Avenue, turn left at Ajax Street, and turn left at Cedar Avenue. Continue until the road dead ends at the entrance gate.

For more information on either activity, call 473-2816.

Looking for something else to do this weekend? Here are some suggestions:

• Every other Saturday Max's Cafe hosts Youth Music Cares, teenagers from all over Main peforming to raise money for charitable organizations. The fun begins at 7 p.m.

• A divinely decadent experience! Running from March 2 to April 15, Independent Cabaret Productions and Shakespeare at Stinson will present a startling rendition of Tony-award-winning musical Cabaret, directed by Hector Correa. In the Larkspur Cafe Theatre, the production will use an intimate space much like what Christopher Isherwood saw in pre-World-War-II Berlin.

• A happy ending? In an opera? Catch a live broadcast of Manon at the Lark Theater on Saturday at 9 a.m. It's a classic conflict between love and money coming to Larkspur live from the Metropolitan Opera. If that's not to your taste, check out The Lorax in the afternoon.

• Opening day is here. The Flatiron Sports Bar and the San Rafael Pacifics invite all local sports fans to a celebration of the opening of the 2012 baseball season at the Flatiron Sports Bar, Friday, April 6 as the San Francisco Giants open their 2012 season against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
