There are lots of fun activities for kids at Marin Country Mart Saturday Farmers Market

Petting Zoo, Popsicles, Ponies & More

It was a beautiful summer day at the Marin Country Mart Farmers Market in Larkspur as little ones enjoyed all the activities offered. The big tent provided shade for those wanting to escape the bright sunshine to have lunch, make a craft or have their face painted.

Children and adults stayed cool slurping SF Pops.  They are super delicious popsicles that are handmade with organic local ingredients, all natural, and sustainable. Some of the flavors offered were blueberry lemonade, strawberry and cherry vanilla peach.

The free weekly craft tables were filled with children making masks using foam stickers, feathers, sparkly paper, markers and more. It always seems like the right time for a child to make a mask – no holiday necessary.

The face painting station had a line of little ones waiting.  As they waited they would choose a design from the board in anticipation. Tiger faces for the boys and flying hearts and rainbows for the girls seemed to be the most popular.

Two and half year old Kaden wanted to look like his big brother Kole, 6 ½, and said, “…get tiger face!”  Kaden sat completely still while his face was painted and was so happy when he saw a tiger in the mirror.  Big brother Kole was so proud.

Twin 4 year old girls had hearts and rainbows painted on their foreheads.  As they posed for a picture taken by their dad, instead of saying cheese, he prompted them to say, “Dad’s awesome!” which they did with big smiles.

Out in the sunshine little ones were riding ponies and petting animals. One 6 year old girl was petting a bunny and said, “…that’s such a cute bunny daddy, now let’s go look at the chickens!”  Children enjoyed petting the ducks, chickens and rabbits.  One 4 year old was intently watching the ducks drink water as they made a funny slurping sound.

Children were enjoying all the activities that are offered year round at the Marin Country Mart Farmers Market, which sets up its food carnival every Satruday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you haven’t yet stopped by this wonderful neighborhood market, bring the kids and have some good old fashioned fun…and do some shopping to support your local farmers.

Until next time, remember, it’s all “for the love of kids…”

In joy, Marilyn
