Family and friends of David Goddard gathered Wednesday night for a candlelight vigil in honor of the .
David, 17, was a senior at .
The vigil was held at a parking lot on Portola Avenue — where emergency crews on late Tuesday night found a deceased David inside a Chevy van on its roof. Police have said David was traveling at a high rate of speed on Murrieta Boulevard when he crossed the Portola Avenue intersection and crashed into a steel gate and another parked vehicle in the lot.
Investigators said alcohol may have played a role in the crash and the coroners are awaiting autopsy results.
David's friends and family at the vigil surrounded a memorial of pictures, flowers and candles. Family members expressed their thanks for those in attendance and the support they have received.
"I can see so many people loved him and I miss him so much," a man said to attendees at the vigil. "Don't take anything for granted, because it can change so fast."
A woman also said to those in attendance: "Friends were very important to him. He would be so happy to see you all here. I appreciate every single one of you and I know he cared for every single one of you."
David's death has rocked the Livermore community. Many people have left condolences and prayers for his family on our Facebook page and in the .

Dear LVJUSD Community:
It is with deep sorrow that we have learned of the untimely passing of one of our high school students. Last night, LHS senior, David Goddard passed away as a result of a single car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Goddard family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
As always, during periods of crisis, the LVJUSD and the entire Livermore Community will pull together and support each other.
The District crisis team will be at LHS next week as school resumes, to provide support and comfort to students, faculty and support staff.
During this holiday season, as we celebrate, appreciate and cherish our family and friends, let's remember just how precious life is, and let's keep the Goddard family in our minds and hearts, as they have suffered such a tragic loss.
