Former Livermore Resident, Father of 3 Struck, Injured By Police Car While Crossing Street
A fundraising campaign has been established to help 32-year-old Hiram David Estrada's family.
LIVERMORE, CA — The community is rallying to raise funds for a former Livermore resident who was hospitalized after he was struck by a police car while in Lathrop. Family members say 32-year-old Hiram David Estrada was struck by a Lathrop patrol car as he crossed the street.
“He was knocked into a coma and transported to the hospital in critical condition,” Estrada’s sister, Adrienne Estrada told Patch via email. “He wasn't breathing, he wasn't talking, he was bruised with broken bones and road rash.”
California Highway Patrol Officer Charlie Katzakian said the collision occurred in the area of Louise Avenue and Warfield Road at about 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 6. According to Katzakian, Estrada was crossing the street, walking in the number two lane of the road, while the patrol car was driving in the number one lane. Katzakian said Estrada, who was wearing all dark clothing, walked into the path of the oncoming patrol car, was struck and taken to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

“David was the sole provider for his family and this remains a very stressful time for them," Adrienne said. "Rent is due, bills are piling up, medical costs are rising, the kids need to be fed, and Christmas is now upon us. I am trying to do everything within my power to help David's family stay afloat."
Almost a month later, Adrienne said her brother, who recently awoke from his coma, has endured three surgeries and is relearning to talk, walk, and eat. The father of three young boys was recently moved to a rehabilitation center.
