Mother and Child Rescued From Elevator

Mother and her 18-month-old daughter were stuck in an elevator for more than two hours on Tuesday.

Mother and Child Rescued From Elevator

Firefighters on Tuesday rescued a mother and her 18-month-old daughter from a malfunctioned elevator, said Jeff Peters, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department battalion chief.

Emergency crews at about 6:30 p.m. were sent to the storage facility on Northfront Road for a report of people stuck inside an elevator.

"The mother and daughter had been stuck in the elevator for an hour already," Peters said of when firefighters arrived on scene. "There was an unusual construction in the elevator that blocked our tools to gain access."

Firefighters eventually were able to open the elevator — which Peters said was slightly stuck in between floors — an hour later by using airbags to force the doors to open.

No injuries were reported in the incident and the mother and daughter were in good spirits when firefighters opened the elevator, Peters said.

"The 18-month-old child didn't cry once," he said. "Pretty impressive."
