2-Alarm Fire Destroys Home Near Virginia Country Club in Long Beach

A family of four was alerted by smoke detectors and got out before calling the fire department, a fire official said.

LONG BEACH, CA -- A two-alarm fire Monday damaged a large, two-story home near the Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, authorities said.

It was reported at 10:22 p.m. in the 4200 block of Country Club Drive, said Long Beach Firefighter Brian Fisk.

A family of four was alerted by smoke detectors and got out before calling the fire department, Fisk said.

Arriving firefighters saw smoke showing through the roof, he said.

They called for more firefighters because of the size of the house and that the flames spanned the full length of the house in the attic, Fisk said.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, he said.

The four residents were displaced, Fisk said.
