Sanitation Truck Blaze Ignites Brush Fire Near Laurel Canyon
Sanitation workers dumped the burning debris into the roadway, but heavy winds pushed embers to nearby brush Thursday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The contents of a sanitation truck erupted in flames, setting off a small brush fire near Laurel Canyon and Beverly Ridge Estates Thursday, morning.
Firefighters quickly doused the blaze, which broke out shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the 9000 block of Alto Cedro Drive near Mulholland Drive.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find, "heavy fire consuming a sanitation truck, and spreading into the nearby brush, with approximately 13 mph winds fueling the fire," said Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesman Nicholas Prange.

Per protocol, the sanitation workers dumped the burning contents in the middle of the street, he said.
"Firefighters arrived and quickly deployed hose lines as the roadside brush was being singed by flames stoked by the wind," Prange said. "Crews prevented the fire from extending into the brush, and extinguished the burning trash in the road in 22 minutes."
