SigAlert: Truck Fire Triggers Hours-Long 5 Freeway Lane Closures

A semi-truck caught fire and blocked multiple lanes of the freeway in the Commerce area, according to the CHP.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A semi-truck fire shut down several lanes of the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Commerce area during Thursday morning's rush hour.

The closure lasted hours. The California Highway Patrol has issued a SigAlert for an unknown duration. The crash occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, and three right lanes remained blocked as of 7:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The truck was blocking the 3 and 4 lanes at Garfield Avenue, and only the number 1 lane has been reopened, according to the CHP.
