The chickens are coming! The chickens are coming!

A new  Chick-fil-A took another flap forward recently after officials gave the fast-food giant a permit to build two drive-thru lanes at its proposed 4,529-square-foot restaurant in Seal Beach.

The Planning Commission decision serves as official confirmation that the biz will come to roost at 12101 Seal Beach Blvd., filling an empty nest at the Shops at Rossmoor that had been vacant since 2006, according to city staff.

Seal Beach requires any business proposing a drive-thru lane to go through the city’s permitting process, which Chick-fil-A did Jan. 16.

According to city staff, the restaurant will have 114 seats, no outdoor dining, automatic volume control on the drive-through speaker boxes and about 15 employees working any given shift.

The interior floor plan is designed with a 1,470-square-foot dining area and a 200-square-foot children's play area.

Operating hours are proposed for 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.

Located on the north end of the property, the business would also have shared parking with the shopping center.

Famous for its Southern-style chicken sandwiches and its bovine mascots, the company recently found itself in mired in America’s debate over gay marriage  after its president said he supported "the Biblical definition of the family unit.

Gay marriage advocates strongly criticized the chain, holding kiss-ins, protests and business boycotts while traditional marriage advocates flocked to Chick-fil-A restaurants to show support for the company and its leaders.

In previous interviews, city staff said the Planning Commission only examines application on design merits, not the political or social beliefs of the business owners.
