‘Everything's in Place' for Seal Beach Christmas Parade

The 34th annual event begins 7 p.m. Friday, and the event chair says things are looking fine. Also, check out the updated parade line-up.

With the Seal Beach Christmas parade approaching faster than a certain jolly fat man in a ridiculously quick sleigh, organizers are busy putting the finishing touches on the annual tradition.

More than 14,000 people are expected to watch the 34th annual holiday event Friday night at 7 p.m, according to Scott Newton, parade chairman.

The event brings together 111 parade entries, 3,677 participants — about 2,000 of them children — and about 100 volunteers.

“Operationally, everything is dialing in just perfectly,” Newton said. “There’s always some last-minute changes you got to work out, but everything’s in place.”

The parade is sponsored jointly by the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Seal Beach Lions Club and the city of Seal Beach.

“It truly is a hometown event," Newton said.

He says his favorite part is seeing the children walking, dancing, waving and performing in the event.

The parade takes place on Main Street in Old Town, travels three blocks, takes about 1 1/2 hours and ends with a visit from Santa Claus.

Newton said that Seal Beach residents who haven’t seen the parade should check it out.

"If you’re a resident of Seal Beach, you’re going to see the heart and soul of the city." Newton said. "You’re going to see every (city) organization represent."

Main Street will be closed off to traffic at 5 p.m., but Newton said most of the shops and restaurants along the thoroughfare will be open and having parties, receptions and open houses.

“It’s great night to wander Main Street,” Newton said.

While the night might be merry, he said parking might be a Grinch so residents should consider showing up early.

Parade announcers are scheduled to be located along Main Street at Ocean, Central, Electric and at 321 Main Street.

There will also be an information booth at the pier for anyone who has questions.

For more information call the local chamber at (562) 799-0179.
