Lifeguards to Build Two New Towers

Seal Beach Marine Safety Chief Joe Bailey says construction begins next week.

Lifeguards to Build Two New Towers

The Seal Beach Marine Safety Department will begin building two new lifeguard towers next week.

Construction will begin in the lifeguard headquarters parking lot compound, said Marine Safety Chief Joe Bailey in his weekly status report. The towers should be completed in four to six weeks.

According to department figures for Jan. 25 through Jan. 31, it's been a quiet week at the beach.  There were zero reports of rescues, medical aids, major medical aids, stingray injuries or boat rescues.

Other news from the weekly status report

  • The surf has been small, and the weather chilly at the beach this week, but the forecast is expected to heat up this weekend.
  • Surf is scheduled to remain in the 1-3 foot range.
  • Tryouts for beach lifeguards will take place 8 a.m. April 14.
