A woman was killed today and six other people were injured, two critically, when an SUV slammed into pedestrians waiting outside a popular Buena Park ice cream parlor, authorities said.
The SUV struck people outside Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurant in the 8600 block of Beach Boulevard around 6 p.m., said Capt. Ben Gonzales of the Orange County Fire Authority.
A woman was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was pronounced dead. Gonzales said. He said she was approximately 60 years old, but NBC4 reported she was 73.
Another woman and a teenage girl were also hospitalized with critical injuries, said Cpl. Andy Luong of the Buena Park Police Department.
Three other people, including a man and his son, were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Luong said.
One person was evaluated and treated at the scene but declined to be taken to a hospital, Gonzales said.
The driver of the SUV -- who is in his 70s, according to ABC7 -- and a woman who was a passenger in the vehicle were not injured, Luong said.--City News Service
