62 Couples Tie the Knot in 12-12-12 Mass Ceremony

The Santa Clara County Clerk's office was so inundated with requests to be married that it decided to hold a mass wedding on the special day that won't occur again for 100 years.

Wednesday was a special day for 62 couples in Santa Clara County.

Driven by the mystique that surrounded the date of December 12, 2012, or 12-12-12, 124 men and women found themselves man and wife shortly before 5:00 p.m.

The 4:30 p.m. ceremony, held in the County Supervisor's Chambers on West Hedding Street in San Jose, was officiated by Santa Clara County Deputy Commissioner of Marriage Ben Miyaji, and went off without a hitch.

"Not this big," said Miyaji. "I've done 29 (couples) on Valentine's Day, but not this big. It's special. It's the last such date of the century."

There was not an open seat to be had; well-wishers lined the walls in a standing-room only crowd.
