Local Boy Scout Presents First Recycled Laptop To Sunday Friends' Family

A Los Altos/San Jose Community Outreach and Eagle Service Project

As part of a Boy Scout Eagle Project at Troop 31 of Los Altos, Terence Lee has teamed up with Sunday Friends, a nonprofit outreach organization in San Jose, to launch a Computer Recycle, Refurbish, Redeploy Program in support of their STEM education program. Kids from low-income families in areas served by Sunday Friends who typically do not have easy access to computers will now be able to use these redeployed computers to learn from the many excellent online educational programs such as Khan Academy.

“The first phase of my project is to collect, refurbish and establish a computer redeployment program so that underprivileged kids in our community can have access to various academic support resources online,” Lee said. “Next, I would like to roll out a Khan Academy program at Sunday Friends.”

After successful completion of Sunday Friends’ requirements, Victor M. and Michael M. were presented a recycled laptop by Terence Lee at Santee Elementary School. Janis Baron, Founder of Sunday Friends, congratulated the brothers for their dedication and excellent achievement at Sunday Friends.
