After several delays, the last mission for this shuttle began today.

Space Shuttle Endeavour Finally Lifts Off

Monday's liftoff marks the last flight, after 19 years, for space shuttle Endeavour, set to lift off at 5:56 a.m. PST at Cape Canaveral.

Endeavour's six-member crew had , but with a , the flight was delayed. Usually, residents of the Bay Area are invited to watch the live televised broadcast of the launch at NASA Ames' Exploration Center.

During Endeavours's 16-day mission, the astronauts will deliver to the International Space Station the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer, a particle physics detector designed to search for unusual matter and spare parts, including two S-band communications antennas, a high-pressure gas tank and additional spare parts for the station's Dextre telemanipulator robot.

The STS-134 mission is Endeavour's final scheduled flight and the second-to-last flight for the space shuttle program.
