Attempted elder fraud
Oct. 19, 8:52 a.m., 300 block of San Luis Avenue; an individual called a senior Los Altos resident and pretended to be her grandson. Subject stated that he was in jail after a car accident and needed money to pay for the damages. Subject wanted victim to wire money to Mexico City to pay for the “damages”. Intended victim became suspicious and called a family member who then called police; report taken.
The Palo Alto Police Department has regarding the "Grandson Scam."
Oct. 20, 11:06 a.m., 199 Main Street; customer went into a Chase Bank branch and threatened employees with harm. Customer contacted and told if he returned to the business, it would lead to an arrest. Report taken.
Oct. 20, 3:21 p.m., 900 block of St. Joseph Avenue; residents' outgoing mail was taken from mail box. Report taken.
Oct. 17, 12:37 p.m.; two bikes stolen from a shed at 777 Manor Way. Cold case, no report taken.
Oct. 19, 2:07 p.m., 2300 block of Homestead Road; cold report.
Oct. 16, 1:52 a.m., El Camino Real and Charleston Road. A driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
Oct. 17, 2:42 a.m., Ortega Avenue and Latham Street. A suspected drunk driver was stopped and arrested.
Oct. 19, 11:10 a.m., Los Altos Police Station; subject self-surrendered on a $1,000 warrant; processed and released with a court date.
Oct. 21, 1:08 a.m., Wilkie Way and Charleston Road; Jesus Moreno, 30, was driving under the influence. Arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
