Some 170 Southern Edison customers lost power Thursday in Malibu, including Pepperdine University's campus.

The outage began at 4:03 p.m. in the area of Banowsky Boulevard on Pepperdine's campus to the south, Malibu Canyon Road to the east, Huntington Circle to the north and Via Pacifica to the west, according to Paul Klein, an Edison spokesman.

Power was restored by 5:30 p.m. at Pepperdine and other parts of Malibu. The cause is under investigation.

Darlene Melendez ‏wrote on her Twitter account: "Praying fervently to the electricity gods that this power outage lasts 'til the end of the night and my 6 pm class is cancelled."
