Police: We’ve Solved the Grand View Elementary Arson/Vandalism Case

Manhattan Beach police officers said they have arrested a 17-year-old Mira Costa High School student in connection with a Dec. 21 arson and vandalism attack on Grand View Elementary.

The incident happened during winter break, with several teens trespassing onto the elementary campus to drink alcohol and play “beer pong,” according to a Manhattan Beach Police Department press release.

“The campus was vandalized with graffiti and a chair was set on fire,” the press release states.

Officers working with the Manhattan Beach Unified School District were able to identify several Mira Costa students who attended the party, officials said.

On Monday, officers arrested the 17-year-old, whose name is not being release because of his age, under the suspicion of vandalism and arson. He was released to his parents pending a court appearance, the press release says.
