Pitfire Artisan Pizza plans to open a location in Manhattan Beach later this year.

Pomodoro Gone, Pitfire to Move in

Pitfire Artisan Pizza will open in downtown Manhattan Beach in December where Pomodoro Cucina Italiana restaurant once operated.

The pizza company runs restaurants in North Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles, Westwood, Mar Vista and West Hollywood. Its new location will open at 401 Manhattan Beach Blvd., the company announced.

“Not only is the Manhattan Beach space centrally located in the heart of downtown, the beach community’s culinary scene has continued to evolve, and its family-focused, tight-knit neighborhood makes it the perfect fit for us,” said Paul Hibler, co-founder of the pizza firm, in a press release.

Pitfire is known for its wood-fired pizzas and has been cited as a "must try"  by Zagat. Pitfire plans to open for lunch and dinner, opening at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday and at noon on Sunday.

Beyond pizza and Italian dishes, Pitfire will offer on-tap beer and domestic and craft bottle varieties, the company said.

Pomodoro closed its Manhattan Beach location on Sept. 23.
