Vintage Red BMW R25 Up For Auction

The Manhattan Beach Fire Department is auctioning off the classic bike to raise money for an outdoor barbecue area that will be used during public events.

Vintage Red BMW R25 Up For Auction

A vintage red 1955 BMW R25 motorcycle is up for auction Saturday.

Donated by the Manhattan Beach Fire Department to gain funds to build a barbecue area on the patio of Fire Station 1, the bike was given to the department by a generous Manhattan Beach resident in 2008.

“This bike is a cool piece of motorcycle history that has been very well restored and maintained. It is a shame we weren’t able to use it more often, but an avid enthusiast will love owning it, and it will be a direct investment back into the community, in return,” said Fire Chief Robert Espinosa of the auction.

The motorcycle, with its red color, was a "natural fit" for the fire department, which has used it in parades and public events. Now a lucky motorcycle enthusiast can gain a gem and the fire department can move forward to build an area the community will enjoy, as well!

The new barbecue area at station 1 will help the department hold the several large community events it sponsors, at which firefighters prepare meals. These events include Volunteer Recognition Day and the annual spaghetti dinner.

In addition, the Manhattan Beach Firefighters Association donates “Dinner at the Fire Station” to several South Bay non-profit organizations for fundraising auctions. Auction winners are welcomed into the fire station for a dinner prepared and paid for by the firefighters.

The vintage BMW motorcycle will be auctioned off Saturday at Ken Porter Auctions, 21140 S. Avalon Blvd., Carson. Inspections will open at 7 a.m. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Anyone interested should contact the auction house at (310) 353-7140 or visit them online for details.
