High Surf Advisory in Effect

Waves could reach up to 9 feet.

High Surf Advisory in Effect

A high surf advisory is in effect for much of the Southland today and swimmers, surfers and people walking along the shoreline should be extra vigilant.

A combination of a northwest swell from a Pacific storm and strong winds will produce surf in the 5 to 8-foot range. A dangerous rip current is expected, and conditions are hazardous for anyone entering the water.

The high surf advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

People should be prepared to quickly move away from the water in case of  sneaker waves that can suddenly inundate beaches and wash over jetties, according to the National Weather Service.
