UPDATE: Two Martinez Teens Killed in Early Morning Crash

The CHP said the driver of the car may have fallen asleep.

Two teenage girls from Martinez died in a crash early Sunday morning on Franklin Canyon Road, just west of McHarry Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the two girls were passengers in a Toyota Solara that travelled off the road and into a tree just before 3 a.m. The driver of the car, also identified as a Martinez teenager sustained minor injuries and was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

According to CHP, the driver said she was going about 60 miles per hour on eastbound Franklin Canyon Road and may have fallen asleep. Drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as a factor in the crash.
