Police Talk Suicidal Woman Down from Train Bridge

The ramps to Highway 4 were blocked at Alhambra Avenue Thursday evening as police responded to reports of a suicidal woman on the train trestle.

Officers arrived on scene shortly after 7:15 p.m. to find a 23-year-old woman standing on the bridge above Alhambra Avenue refusing to come down. Claycord has a picture of the scene, which shows a single person standing on the tracks above the road. Witnesses say a crowd gathered in the road to watch.

Crisis negotiators spoke with the woman for around 30 minutes, according to the Martinez Police Department, and encouraged her to walk off the trestle.

The woman was not injured but was transported by ambulance to county hospital, said Sgt. Steve Gaul in a press release.

The trestle above Alhambra Ave runs parallel to Highway 4 and is usually a busy intersection. Police blocked entrances and exits on the highway until the incident was resolved, around 9 p.m.
