County Board of Supervisor Candidate: Dave Pine

Patch asked candidates running for San Mateo County Board of Supervisors questions to help residents choose. Part three of a six-part series.

County Board of Supervisor Candidate: Dave Pine

1) What issue do you feel most strongly about and what’s your position?

The necessity of getting the San Mateo County fiscal house in order. Given the extent of the budget shortfall, we will need to find ways to deliver services more efficiently, and we will need to set priorities and make difficult cuts in the budget.  We also need to do everything we can to strengthen the local economy and make sure that people have jobs and we preserve our tax base.

2) Who are your primary supporters?

I have quite a few, starting with Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Assemblymember Rich Gordon, former Assemblymember Gene Mullin, the Sierra Club, Don Horsely, a current supervisor and a former San Mateo County sherriff, Anne Campbell, the county superintendent of schools; and Tom Huening, the San Mateo County controller.

3) What’s something that people don’t know about you?

I grew up in New Hampshire, and I was elected to the New Hampshire state legislature when I was 19.  It’s not as big a deal as it might sound because New Hampshire takes its democracy very seriously, and we had 400 people in our state legislature.
