Traffic on Highway 101 from Marsh Road to Woodside Road has virtually stopped due to a downed phone line.
The Marsh Road exit is closed until further notice, according to Menlo Park Police Department.
“This is brutal, no one should have to sit through this,” said Menlo Park Patch Editor Vanessa Castañeda, who is currently stuck in the traffic.
David Chin (@Well_DCsays) tweeted about the stopped traffic and instagram-ed a photo of it.
Spencer Chen (@SpencerChen) tweeted #SF #101: Traffic at standstill near 84, Redwood City. Northbound & Southbound. Accident. Don’t bother. Go back to bed.
Update 11:31 a.m.
The cause of the traffic is actually a downed AT&T fiber optic line, according to CHP Spokesperson Curtis Glace. A car clipped one of the phone lines along the highway, which hang lower than the PG&E power lines above them, according to Joe Molica, a PG&E spokesperson.
The Marsh Road exit is now re-opened. However, a White Toyota Corolla with a shattered front windshield is parked on the corner of Marsh Road exit. A CHP officer is interviewing the driver, who appears to be uninjured.
The , PG&E, AT&T and the officers are out on the side of 101 working to rectify the situation.
All lanes on 101 are open. Commuters should expect delays.
