Brian Hidalgo threw a three-hit shutout in helping the San Carlos Seals beat Spanish Springs, 7-0, Monday in the semifinals of the Joe DiMaggio Baseball World Series at Wooster High in Reno.

The Seals (3-0) advanced to the championship game of the double-elimination tournament later Monday night against an opponent to be determined.

Joey Carney slammed a pair of triples and drove in two runs for the Seals, the champions of the Peninsula DiMaggio League South Division with a 13-5 record.

Hidalgo and Carney, both from Mills High, played for Millbrae during the regular season and were picked by the Seals after they eliminated Millbrae from contention.

"Joey is in the running for tournament MVP and they are both good pitchers," San Carlos manager Brian Ramsey said.

Hidalgo struck out eight and walked two in the victory while Woodside High's Bobby Degan added three hits and drove in two runs.

Carlmont High senior Jonathan Corvello and Serra High grad Matt Michelini each added two hits for San Carlos.

San Carlos opened the tournsment with a pair of victories on Saturday.

San Carlos beat the Sierra Sun Devils, 10-3, and then beat the San Francisco Cardinals, 9-8.
