Deceased Elmwood Inmate ID'd as David Rios
Rios was found unresponsive in his cell where jail staff performed first aid and CPR. He was pronounced dead at the hospital an hour later.

An inmate who died while in custody at the Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas earlier this month has been identified as 51-year-old David Rios, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Rios was found unresponsive in his cell at about 8:20 a.m. on Nov. 13 at the facility located at 701 S. Abel St., sheriff’s officials said.

Custody staff performed first aid and CPR on Rios before he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, according to sheriff’s officials.
Investigators are still looking into the case and are awaiting results from the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office, sheriff’s officials said.

The sheriff’s office followed standard protocol after an inmate’s death including notifying the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
