Why Go: Adobo, a traditional Filipino stew, is the centerpiece of this cultural festival. Featuring a cook-off contest, back-to-back performances on stage and a kiddie pop star competition for ages 4-10.

Big Dog Vineyards Wine Tasting

Where/When: , all weekend, noon to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Skip the trip to Napa and relax in the foothills of Milpitas. The patio will be open all weekend.

Pricing: Tastings are free; prices for wine bottles will vary


Saturday only

Where/When: Lunch at Tony's restaurant, 5202 N. First St., Alviso, Saturday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Go: More than 100 beautifully restored classic cars near the bay. Enjoy a selection of restaurants in town and explore the Alviso Marina County Park, gateway to Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.

Where/When: , Saturday, 1-6 p.m. (ribbon cutting at 3 p.m.) 

Why Go: Nationally recognized coach/instructor Master Henry Cruz and Master Chino Cruz cut the ribbon at 3 p.m. with state Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), Mayor Jose Esteves, Vice Mayor Pete McHugh, and Councilman Armando Gomez.

Sunday only

Where/When: , Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: NFL Superstars 5th Annual Kickoff Party features Oakland Raiders tailback Michael Bennett, Sacramento Kings reserve center Darnell Jackson and San Francisco 49ers player Larry Grant. 

Pricing: $20 advance ticket purchase; $40 at the door

Why Go: Be part of the nationwide effort to collect 10,000 pints to save 30,000 lives toward the anniversary of 9/11. Mayor Esteves will be among the donors Sunday.

While the blood drive in Milpitas is nearly full, any member of the public can donate as part of  Muslims for Life. Red Cross locations will be open in Newark and the Red Cross office in downtown San Jose. Just register under sponsor code  CODEREDand your pint will be counted as part of the 10,000.

Run a 5K or 10K at Hellyer Park

Where/When: Hellyer Park (take 101 exit off Hellyer), Sunday, 9 a.m.

Why Go: Catch scenic sights of the county park and the Coyote Creek trail. Aid stations with water and sports drinks along the way. The pre-party with free pasta dinner is at Santana Row Lululemon store on Saturday night, 7-9 p.m.

Pricing: 5K is $33.50; 10K is $38.50; parking is $6
