Catch 'The Count of Monte Cristo' in Free Mission Viejo Showing

From the city:

The public is invited to a screening of the 2002 adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas novel “The Count of Monte Cristo” on Sunday, January 19 at Mission Viejo City Hall.

The PG-13 rated film, which airs at 2 p.m., is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee and coincides with January’s character trait of “perseverance.”

The innocent Edmond Dantes languishes in a dungeon for 14 years before escaping and finding a treasure that makes him among the richest men in the world.  He then perseveres to find and exact revenge on those who betrayed him.  The cast includes Jim Caviezel as Dantes, Guy Pearce as the treacherous Count Mondego and Richard Harris as the Abbé Faria.

Character educators Elaine Portnoy and Bob Hayes will lead a brief discussion following the film, which will be shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.
