UPDATE: Bicyclist Struck in Hit and Run on Foothill

A bicyclist was struck by a car in a hit and run on Foothill Boulevard that resulted in the arrest of the driver, police said Monday.

The driver, who police would not identify because he had not yet been booked, struck the bicyclist near the intersection of Violet Avenue and Foothill, according to Sgt. Michael Head.

"The bicyclist was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries," Head said.

CBS2 News reported that the driver turned himself in about an hour after the crash. City News Service identified the man as Jason Travers, 34, of Monrovia. He was booked on suspicion felony hit and run; his bail was set at $50,000, CNS reported.

Police received the call at 5:42 p.m. Head did not know where the driver was arrested following the collision and did not provide specifics on the circumstances of the incident.

Justin Chapman, a friend of the victim and a Patch contributor, identified the bicyclist as Paul Tetu. He said Tetu was struck from behind and doesn't remember the accident.

"He's OK, no broken bones or anything, but he's pretty banged up. He hit his head and doesn't remember anything," Chapman wrote in an email. "He got hit from behind and the vehicle took off."
