Boy Reportedly Attacked, Robbed of Bicycle

A 12-year-old boy was reportedly hit by a man and robbed of his BMX bicycle Friday night.

The boy received minor injuries and only complained of pain. The boy was transported to an area hospital as a precaution, police said.

The attack happened around 8:45 p.m. in the 400 block of South Myrtle Avenue. The boy was walking his bicycle when he was approached by the suspect, who hit him once on the side of the head and took the boy's bike, said Lieutenant Nels Ortlund of Monrovia Police.

According to witnesses, the suspect rode off on his bike and was then accompanied by another male. The two rode out of sight, Ortlund said. Police conducted a search of the area by ground and by air, but could not find the suspects.

The bike stolen was described as a boys' BMX bike with a black frame, red handlebars and red forks.

The first suspect is described as a male white in his late teens or early 20s wearing a blue hoodie. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic male in a red shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Monrovia Police Department at (626) 256-8000 and ask for the watch commander.
