Shots Fired Reports Turn Out To Be Fireworks

A police helicopter was called out to the scene where gunshots were reported but officers determined the noises were caused by fireworks.

Shots Fired Reports Turn Out To Be Fireworks

Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 900 block of South Myrtle Avenue but the disturbances were caused by fireworks, not gunfire, police said.

Several residents reported hearing shots after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and a police helicopter was dispatched to the area. But witnesses in the area said the loud noises were caused by fireworks, not gunshots, Monrovia Police Sgt. Michael Head said.

"We had several witnesses said they saw some kind of rockets or fireworks in the air," Head said.

No arrests were made and police did not issue any citations for use of illegal fireworks, Head said.
