Deputies Shoot and Kill Attacking Pit Bull

A sheriff's deputy shot and killed a pitbull that attacked two other dogs in La Crescenta, according to Pasadena Star-News.

The incident happened on Markridge Road, at Ramsdell Avenue, about 9:30 a.m. Monday, according to The Star-News.

Two people were holding down the aggressive dog and were concerned it would bite them, Sheriff's Capt. Dave Silversparre told Patch via email.

"It was shot because of the danger to the people in the immediate area, public and the responding deputy, had the dog gotten away," Silversparre said.

The deputy attempted to have the owner control the vicious dog, who belonged to a woman's son who wasn't home, he added. She told deputies she could not control the animal.

"Animal Control was not immediately available, and individuals admittedly were losing control of the dog. The deputy had no other option but to put down the dog for everyone's safety," Silversparre said.

There are no other recent reported shootings of dogs, including pit bulls, in La Crescenta, he said.

Investigators do not know the conditons of the other dogs, however, the owner indicated he would seek veterinarian treatment for the animals, Silversparre said.
