Search for Missing Local Mother Reaches Second Week

Family and friends of Megan DiPiazza are still looking for the mother of two, who disappeared more than two weeks ago from her Sunland apartment.

The 33-year-old Crescenta Valley High School graduate went missing Sunday, Nov. 11, following an argument over the fate of their marriage, said DiPiazza's husband, Sal DiPiazza.

She was last seen in the La Crescenta, Sunland-Tujunga area and  authorities said.

Investigators have not released further information about Megan DiPiazza because she is considered a voluntary missing person, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told Patch.

"They call this a voluntary missing person. But this is not a voluntary missing person to me," Sal DiPiazza said.

Megan is a mother to a 13-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son, he said.

"She can’t stay away from her child for more than a day without checking or calling," Sal DiPiazza said.

Investigators went to her Sunland apartment and found her purse and wallet were there, he said.

"The only thing we noticed missing was her driver’s license, her debit card and her phone. There were no clothes packed or any make up. So she literally must have had her license or ATM card in her pocket and grabbed her car and took off," DiPiazza said.

Police found a "note saying goodbye" at the bottom of a trash can, he said. Family and friends have called local hospitals and rehabilitation centers to find information about her.

Police have said she has a history of depression.

"I just don't know how long it takes for Glendale Police Department to go from voluntary missing person to kidnapping or abduction. She’s got to be checked in somewhere," he said.

There is no activity on her card or phone, he said.

"We’ve been trying to follow up with any friends or family, or somebody who might see her," he said.

DiPiazza said media reports indicating his wife could be with friends is not true.

"She was by herself. It’s not true that she was with friends. We don’t know if she went to a friend’s house or just went for a drive. It’s not like her to leave for long periods of time," he said.

Megan and Sal DiPiazza separated about a month ago, with Megan getting her own apartment in Sunland.

"We’ve been working on our marriage with some time to separate and work things over," he said.

The couple went out to dinner earlier that week, he said.

"She loves her job. She loved going to work. She’s a workaholic. She was working late just to get some extra money. Even if she was working late, even before she moved out, she would call me. She would always check in," DiPiazza said.

Sal DiPiazza is continuing to work with family, friends, Glendale Police Department, Los Angeles Police Department and the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station to find Megan.

His 13-year-old daughter is from a previous relationship and will be spending time with her other side of the family, he said. His 5-year-old son does not know his mother is missing.

"My son doesn’t know what’s going on... he just thinks mommy’s working late," he said.

"I was with her the last 10 years. This is just not her style and it’s not the way she is. She’s a very self-conscious person. She had her bag with her beef jerky and her sodas. She’d bring her make up bag with her even to the grocery store. She’s not the kind of person who would hop in her car and take off," he said.

Megan DiPiazza is 33-years-old, with blond hair, green eyes, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 122 pounds. She has naturally curly hair.

Her vehicle is a 2013 Gray Toyota Scion plate number 6XJR885 (Vehicle may not have any plates on it).

Anyone with information that would lead to her whereabouts is urged to contact Glendale Police Sgt. Jeff Newton at (818) 548-3987 or (818) 548-4840.
