Free, Fun Stuff for Families This Week

As temperatures soar and with school opening more than a month away, there's no shortage of fun things to do this week with the family. The best part is they're free, or almost!

For its 85th birthday today, 7-Eleven will dole out free 7.11 oz. Slurpees. Compared to last year's 5 million freebies, the convenience store giant is prepared to hand out 10 million of the refreshing drink today.

Promo hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. The nearest 7-Eleven is at 530 East Los Angeles Ave.

After getting your Slurpees, see a movie for $1 at nearby Simi Valley. The Regal Theaters group is hosting Summer Movies Express every Tuesdays and Wednesdays until August 22. Today's movie is "Hugo" and it starts at 10 a.m. at Civic Center Stadium 16 at 2751 Tapo Canyon Rd. in Simi Valley.

Plan ahead for "Adventures of Tin Tin" and "Puss in Boots" next week.

The hosts free teen movie matinees every Thursday at 2 p.m. This week's movie is "Ghostbusters" (rated PG).

At the Simi Valley Town Center, 1555 Simi Town Center Way, Thursday movies are only $2 until August 16. This week's movie is "Charlotte's Web" starting at 7 p.m. Come early and do crafts with the whole family at 6 p.m.

To roll out its new energy drink, Refreshers, Starbucks will be giving away the 12 oz. hand-crafted drinks in two flavors: Cool Lime and Very Berry Hibiscus.

Promo hours are from 12 to 3 p.m. There are a few Starbucks locations in Moorpark: 561 New Los Angeles Ave., 6595 Collins Dr. and 4241 Tierra Rejada Rd.

After getting your energy drink, head over to the Apricot Room of the Moorpark Civic Center and watch "Treasure Buddies" (rated G) at 2 p.m. This family event is for free.
