Moorpark High Runners Plan Fun 5K

Organizers encourage participants to come in costume.

Moorpark High Runners Plan Fun 5K

Halloween's long passed, but it's time to don those costumes once again. Moorpark High School is sponsoring a Ground Hog Day 5K road race and one-mile "Catch the Groundhog" fun run in which, along the line of San Francisco's Bay to Breakers race, runners are encouraged to come in costume.

The run is open to all ages and proceeds will benefit the school's cross country and track teams.

The 5K will begin on Mountain Trail Street near the school before looping down Tierra Rejada Road and finishing at the Moorpark High track.

The one-mile fun run will take place on the track ...while chasing the event's official Groundhog Day mascot.

In addition, event will include pre- and post-race festivals and 5K awards ceremony at the Moorpark High School stadium.

Scott Mangers, coach of the Musketeer cross country and track programs said the school wanted to celebrate Moorpark being an active community with the event.

"We are excited to bring a road race back to Moorpark while also showcasing our beautiful stadium. This should be a fun event for the entire family and we look forward to a great show of support," he said.

Registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile run if paid by Jan. 30 or $35 and $25 on race day. Registration fees include a Performance T-shirt for all registered runners.
