Trial Against Matthew Pumar Begins Friday

The defendant stands trial for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for the incident that killed Mountain View resident William Ware on June 21, 2012

Trial Against Matthew Pumar Begins Friday
Jury selection took place this Wednesday in the trial against Matthew Pumar, a 22-year-old, Mountain View resident charged in the death of William "Bill" Ware.

Ware died when Pumar's car struck and killed him on the morning of June 21, 2012 at the intersection of California Street and Escuela Avenue.

A preliminary hearing took place in December 2012 and the judge ruled that enough evidence existed to take the case to trial.

The trial begins Friday at 9 a.m. at the Superior Court House, 270 Grant Ave., in Palo Alto.

Here's a statement from Jim Ware, the brother of the deceased:

"We are glad that this case is finally going to trial. As family members of the victim in this case, it has been quite frustrating to make plans to be in Court for the trial only to have the case continued again and again. Every time a court date approaches, we have to prepare ourselves emotionally and psychologically to re-live this horrific event, only to be sent home for another month or more. We have to make arrangements every time with our employers, our employees, and our clients to let them know that we will be out and why. Every event in our lives for the past 15 months has been adjusted to ensure that one or all of us are in the court room whenever proceedings are going on."
